|Arthrography is the name for procedures that involve the injection of contrast material into a joint. This is a minor procedure but involves use of the live radiographic technique called fluoroscopy. The skin is sterilized and draped with a sterile gown. Lidocaine is used to anesthetize the skin and adjacent tissues and the contrast is then injected into the joint. This can be done using only x-ray evaluation or, in some instances, the injection can be performed prior to an MR evaluation of that joint. At Radiology Assoiciates, presently, arthrography is performed on the shoulder, wrist, hip and knee joints.
